Michael Arlen (1895-1956), British writer and novelist of Armenian extraction, 1937. Arlen, whose real name was Dikran Kuyumjian, was born in Bulgaria to Armenian parents. His work was very popular in the 1920s, capturing the mood of the time. This is particularly so in his best-known novel The Green Hat (1924), set in fashionable twenties London society.
