The naturalist at that timewas about foity years of age, and thepicture now destroyed by fire, was aminiature. Inman also succeeded inobtaining a fine portrait of him, whichis the one that was reproduced in hisBiography. His son John secured stillanother, one of the most valuable nowin existence, it being a full-length withhis favorite dog at his feet.
