Puu Oo crater on Kilauea. Aerial photograph of the Puu Oo crater in the eastern rift zone of the Kilauea volcano on Hawaii. The upper part of the crater has a flared geometry, which narrows to a deep circular shaft (centre). The deepest part of the crater is about 350 metres below the crater rim. The collapse of this crater floor and the subsequent drainage of lava is a key part of an eruptive episode that began in May 2018, known as the 2018 lower Puna eruption. Photographed on 11 May 2018.
