Ligament laxity. Knee of a patient being tested for ligament laxity. Ligaments are bands of fibrous connective tissue that connect a bone to another bone. This disorder may be localised, only affecting a few joints, or generalised, affecting most joints, and is often inherited. Symptoms of ligament laxity include frequent sprains and dislocations and back problems. Treatment is with physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles that also support the joint.
