Watch Out for Spotted Lanternflies
Sign warning of spotted lanternflies in Reading, Pennsylvania, on August 30, 2018. The spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is native to China and was first detected in Pennsylvania in 2014. It has since spread to several nearby states through the transport of infested material, and by the insects hitching rides on cars. It has the potential to become a major agricultural pest, feeding on the sap of a wide range of ornamental, woody, and fruit trees. Note the lanternfly on the sign, in the text to the left of the winged adult image.
