Mr. Stephen Wellington, noticing the very red soil on the freshly ploughed Delyeafarm, decided to prospect for iron ore. On further examination, gossan was found onthe hillside, and later merchantable iron pyrites was discovered. In 1906, Mr. E. L. Fraleck described this property, then known as the Wellingtonprospect, as follows: A series of pits and trenches have disclosed a belt of gossanover five hundred feet long, two hundred feet wide, and about twelve feet in gossan is mainly conglomerate with iron oxide as a cementing material.
