Coastal defences. Stepped sea wall at Hunstanton, Norfolk, UK. The Norfolk area of the English coastline is particularly prone to erosion by the sea, and some areas are eroding at a rate of nine metres a year. Coastal defences, such as this sea wall, are used to slow erosion in some places, while other places are allowed to erode. Photographed in August 2008.
