Bulgaria feb 14th 2014: Vinegrower's Day a pre-harvest vineyard festival held at the Edoardo Miroglio an Italian winery in Bulgaria, involves pruning the vines and sprinkling them with wine. Ritual songs and dances are performed in hopes of a good harvest. Many areas a Vine King is crowned with a wreath of twigs taken from the first cutting of the vineyards treating him with respect for it is believed fertility depends on the Kings happiness. The feast is also known as “Trifun the Drunkard” because of the large quantity of wine drunk during the day, many of the religious believes have been dropped from this festival through the ban of the existence of God during the reign of Communism. ©Clifford Norton/Alamy Live News
