Asian hornet research. Frozen nest of the invasive Asian hornet species Vespa velutina, broken apart so that the number of hornets and larvae in the nest can be counted. This hornet, also called the Asian predatory wasp, first appeared in France in around 2004, and has been spreading, attacking people and preying on native honeybee species. Studies are being carried out to determine the effects of this species becoming established, and ways to reduce its impact. This work was carried out at the French National Museum of Natural History (MNHM) in Paris, France.
