Glastonbury Tor with two people on the summit near St Michael's Tower Glastonbury, Somerset. Seen from the north east in evening light.

The 14th century tower is all that survives from the second chapel built on Glastonbury Tor. Dedicated to St Michael like many churches on high places. This shot shows the terracing of the hill which some see as an ascending spiral pathway or sacred maze dating back to prehistoric times. The path from this side is the shortest route to the top from where there are extensive views over the Somerset Levels. The Tor is connected in legend with Joseph of Arimathea, King Arthur, St Collen and King Gwyn of Annwn the Celtic underworld. The St Michael ley supposedly passes through it, and it has also been suggested that Neolithic people saw the Tor as a goddess is the shortest route to the top of the tour
