This report presents at considerable length, and in considerable de-tail, the development of the use of such track in many foreign coun-tries, the experience thus obtained and the present state of the metaltrack question. The bulk of the information has been obtained fromollicial sources. Foreign railway managements as a rule have mani-fested great courtesy and a willingness to furnish full information bothin regard to the various systems of track, the conditions of service, andthe results obtained.
