The patriarch Moses barefoot on holy ground as God, appearing in the Burning Bush, instructs him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into Canaan, the land of "milk and honey": panel of Tree of Jesse window, by the stained glass masters of Troyes, installed in 1512 in the Église Saint-Rémi, the parish church at Ceffonds, Haute-Marne, Grand Est, France.

Ceffonds, Haute-Marne, Grand Est, France: Moses, barefoot as he encounters God in the Burning Bush, is instructed to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and into Canaan, the land of "milk and honey", in this Renaissance stained glass panel in a Tree of Jesse window installed in 1512 in the village church, the Église Saint-Rémi de Ceffonds. The story, in the Hebrew Bible and Old Testament Book of Exodus, tells how Yahweh, the God of ancient Israel and Judah, first appeared in the bush as an angel while Moses grazed sheep on the slopes of Mount Horeb in Sinai. He then identified himself as "the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob", and told Moses to remove his sandals as he was standing on holy ground. This panel at Ceffonds was created by the master glassmakers of Troyes, historic capital of the Champagne region. Their Tree of Jesse, a visual pedigree of the ancestors of Christ, shows a trunk, springing from Jesse, father of King David, sprouting branches, leaves and daisy-like flowers as it ascends to the infant Jesus held in his mother's arms. The blossoms support images of more than 40 kings, patriarchs and other biblical characters. The Troyenne-style windows at Ceffonds were installed between 1510 and 1524. They are superb examples both of Champenoise School painted glass and - especially - glass produced by the Troyes workshops, which was renowned for its intense blues, striking reds, vivid emerald greens and vibrant chrome yellows. Troyenne glass was installed in many churches in the river valleys and departments of the Aube, Marne and Yonne. As well as vivid colours, it is characterised by the inclusion of small narrative scenes and halos with beaded decoration.
