We havemei this difficulty in an entirely prac-tical manner by attaching a three-quarter inch iron pipe to the lowerside of the jar and regulating the flowof acid by means of a large pinchcockplaced on a short piece of rubber tub-ing at the end of the pipe (fig. 2 1. 1, 5). The How of acid is rapid andeasy to control. Pure rubber is mostsatisfactory and a fresh piece shouldbe substituted about every other night.
