Of turnip several are a partial failure. The United States department of agriculture, circular No. 18, dated May 19, 1906, says: "In order that seedsmen, as well as farmers, may avoid the pur- chase of adulterated seeds, this depart- ment will examine and report promptly as to the presence of adulterants and dodder in any samples of seed submit- ted for the ; Onion seed sown for sets about Chi- cago has in some fields north of the city failed to germinate vifell owing to the drought and large patches are bare. In other fields, where two-year-old seed has been thickly sown, it has germinated well and will produce small sets.
