CHANDLER. Abial Rolfe Chandler, oldest son of Nathan and Jane (Rolfe)Chandler, was born at Penacook, on the Boscawen side of the. Abial R. Chandler. river, Aug. 25, 1805, and received his education in the townschools and at Boscawen academy. He was a farmer by occupa-tion, and early developed a talent for public business and affairs:school matters received much of his care, and in 1848 he waschairman of the committee that built the new brick schoolhouse. D. ARTHUR BROWN. 461 In town affairs he was a leading citizen, serving on the board ofselectmen in the years 1840, 1841, 1842, 1848, 1849. Hewas also chosen as representative to the New Hampshirelegislature in the years 1843, 1844, and 1849. He marriedEliza J. Morrison of Boscawen. In 1852 he gave up hisinterests in Penacook and moved to Lawrence, Mass., where heentered the employ of the Essex company, taking charge of theirlocks and canals. After being away nearly fifteen years had not ceased to feel an interest in his native place, andwhen the Fisherville Library Association was formed he sent acontribution of one hundred dollars for the purchase o
