The critically endangered Mulanje Cedar, Widdringtonia whytei, was clear cut by illegal loggers from this area of Mount Mulanje plateau, Malawi.

The Mulanje Cedar, Widdringtonia whytei, is the national tree of Malawi but is critically endangered due to its small habitat atop a single mountain, Mount Mulanje; the small remaining population is poached for its valuable fragrant wood used in construction and wood-working, leaving scars where the trees have been cleared.
