Many of the largetrees had been prostrated by a recent storm, remind-ing one of the low-lying of him who used to walkbeneath their shade. J. J. G. died in 1847, in his fifty-ninth year. Edinburg. This city is the Athens of Great Britain, being oneof the most picturesque and beautiful. It has a popu-lation of 250,000, and, like Rome, sits on seven was the home of John Knox. His house, the churchwhere he used to preach, and the place where he wasburied, were shown us. He was buried in the streetnear the church, and his grave is marked by a plainstone lying even with the pavement with his name en-graved on it. Holy Rood Palace is in this city. It was hereseveral of the kings and queens were crowned, in theChapel Royal now in a ruined condition. Here MaryQueen of Scots was married to the unworth
