Lenticular clouds are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form in the troposphere, normally in perpendicular alignment to the wind direction and have been regularly confused for UFOs throughout history due to the their smooth, round or oval structure. A distinctive cloud formation resembling lenses and are thought to be an explanation for some supposed UFO sightings.
