Beautiful coral hind, Cephalopholis miniata, an inhabitant of tropical coral reefs.


The coral hind is distributed throughout the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea. Other names of this species are Miniatus Grouper, Miniata Grouper, Coral or Blue-Spot Rockcod, Vermillion seabass, and Coral Grouper. They inhabit coral reefs and live in harems with a dominant male and 2-12 female groupers within one territory. Hunting for smaller fish and crustaceans their territory can be as big as 475 m2. The Coral hind can reach a maximum size of 50 cm length. This picture was taken in the Red Sea in 2007.
