Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) at Antietam Creek, Maryland, USA, 3rd October 1862. Lincoln, 16th President of the United States from 1861 to his assassination in 1865, had Marfan's syndrome, a hereditary disorder characterized by excessive tallness, long slender fingers and heart defects. Lincoln's leaness, thin head and sunken breast were because of his condition. At left is Scottish-US detective and spy Allan Pinkerton (1819-1884), head of the Union Intelligence Service. At right is Major General John Alexander McClernand (1812-1900).
