Sow the early varieties in hot-beds from February to April, Later vari- eties sow in May, in the open ground, transplanting when about six inches high, to 30 inches apart each way. Avoid sowing too thickly in the seed bed, as the plants will be weak and have long stumps. Transplant before a shower or in moist weather, giving each plant a gill of water at the root. To keep cabbage through the winter they should be pulled out on a dry day, turned on their heads a few hours to drain, then set out in a good cellar, osr bury them with their heads down in trenches in a dry situation.
