It was founded by Antigonus, one of the successors of Alexander the Great,and called by him Antigonia Troas, but finished by Lysimachus, another of Alexandersgenerals, and by him called Alexandria Troas.^^ It afterwards received the honour ofbeing a Eoman colony,^ with the Italicum jus, or immunity from direct taxes, asthe land tax and poll tax,» with municipal government; and tliis honour was acquired.
