General von Bock saluting German troops passing the Reichenau customs post on the German-Czech frontier as they occupy the Sudetenland after the betrayal of the Czechs at the Munich Conference. After the annexation of Austria, Hitler demanded that he be given the Sudeten region of Czechoslovakia. At the Munich conference in September 1938 the Western powers agreed to this and the nazis occupied the area. Not long after Hitler broke his promise and invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia before turning his attention to Poland. Bundesarchiv, Bild 146-2003-0040 / CC-BY-SA
