Street view with the exterior of the Evangelic Waldensian Church in the centre of the Alpine city of Aosta, Aosta Valley, Alps, Italy

The Waldensian Church, which has over 20 thousand faithful in Italy, was born within the Christian Catholic Church and departed from it for issues that referred to a merchant of Lyon named Valdo. From it comes the term "Waldensian", which towards the end of the twelfth century translated various contents of the sacred text, in order to allow lay men and women to preach the word. Over the years, the Waldensians were the object of many Catholic persecutions and it was not until 17 February 1848 that King Charles Albert’s "Letters Patent" granted them civil rights.
