Failed skin graft in tissue infection. Close-up of an open wound in the abdomen/perineum of a female patient, following extensive debridement for necrotising soft tissue infection and failed split thickness skin graft (STSG). Debridement is the removal of dead or infected tissue in order to help improve the healing potential of the remaining healthy tissue. Here, the infection had led to extensive necrosis (tissue cell death) of the tissue, requiring a large skin graft to be used to replace the damaged tissue. However, that graft failed. The patient has a foley catheter (tube, lower right) in place.
