Shadow River flows into Lake Rosseau, anda canoe trip up the quiet stream is a delightfulexperience. Its placid surface reflects with per-fect accuracy every overhanging tree, reproducingeach twig and leaf, the scene above the waterbeing exactly duplicated as in a gigantic mirror. At Port Sandfield, Lakes Rosseau and Josephare connected by a short canal. Passing into the latter lake, the jour-ney is continued amid charming scenery, to Stanley Bay, twelve milesfrom Port Sandfield, while five miles more brings us to Port Cockliurn,at the head of the lake. Besides the three lakes thus there are numberless .smaller ones, .scarcely less attractive, which maybe reached overland, or by canoes up the streams which connect themwith the larger lakes ; and as many of these lakes and streams aboundin fish, the angler will find himself well repaid for the trip. THE MAGNETAWAN picturesque Magnetawan River, and the chain of lakes whichit connects, is north of the Musl^oka Lakes, and it drains an area ofsome four thousand square miles, emptying its waters into Georgian Bayat Byng Inlet, after many tortuous windings through the region ofcountry it traverses. The railway approach to this district is by BurksFalls, which stands upon the bank of the river, at the head of steam |R^ ^
