Rye Shipyard- the Construction of Motor Fishing Vessels, Rye, Sussex, England, UK, 1944 At Rye harbour, shipwrights make chalk marks on timbers which will be sawn according to these marks to become the frame of a motor fishing vessel. The marks are made according to the grain of the wood. The original caption states that the oak is specially selected for this purpose from selected trees, 100 of which are used to build each MFV. The original caption also states that each tree is between 80 and 250 years old.
