Visitor danger warning signs close to the foot of the12 km-long Franz Josef Glacier set in Westland Tai Poutini National Park on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. The Westland temperate rainforests and the 12 km descending Franz Josef Glacier meet on the rock-strewn valley floor of the Westland Tai Poutini National Park in the West Coast region of New Zealand’s South Island. The 3,000-metre high glacier is the only glacier in the world, with its ice caves, tunnels, seracs and crevasses that flow into a temperate rainforest. The area, declared a World Heritage Area, attracts a large influx of visitors, as the valley floor is easily accessible on foot for reaching both the edge of the temperate rainforest and glacier.
