This image may not be used to state or imply NOAO endorsement of any company or product Galaxy M109. Optical image of the barred spiral galaxy Messier 109, or NGC 3992. This type SBc galaxy is seen tilted toward Earth, with a prominent central bar and well defined spiral arms. M109 lies about 40-50 million light years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. This image was made with the T2KA CCD camera on a metre telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona in January 1997.
