Spike Milligans grave stone Winchelsea, East Sussex, England, buried at St Thomas's churchyard
Spike Milligans Grave Terence Alan "Spike" Milligan KBE (16 April 1918 – 27 February 2002) was a comedian, writer, musician, poet, playwright, soldier and actor of Irish and English parentage and Irish nationality Even late in life, Milligan's black humour had not deserted him. After the death of Harry Secombe from cancer, he said, "I'm glad he died before me, because I didn't want him to sing at my funeral." A recording of Secombe singing was played at Milligan's memorial service. He also wrote his own obituary, in which he stated repeatedly that he "wrote the Goon Show and died".[39] Milligan died from kidney failure, at the age of 83, on 27 February 2002, at his home in Rye, Sussex. On the day of his funeral, 8 March 2002, his coffin was carried to St Thomas's Church in Winchelsea, East Sussex, and was draped in the flag of Ireland.[40] He had once quipped that he wanted his headstone to bear the words "I told you I was ill." He was buried at St Thomas's churchyard but the Chichester diocese refused to allow this epitaph.[41] A compromise was reached with the Irish translation, Dúirt mé leat go raibh mé breoite and in English, "Love, light, peace". 2002, actor, art, britain, british, buried, celtic, church, churchyard, comedian, cross, davies, dead, depressive, died, east, england, english, entertaine, entertainer, entertainment, europe, event, events, famous, gb, granville, grave, graveyard, great, headstone, isles, kingdom, marked, milligan, place, radio, resting, south, south-east, southern, spike, st, sussex, thomas, thomass, uk, united, vertical, winchelsea, writer
