A history of the British sessile-eyed Crustacea . the abdomen having its extremity furnishedwith two small notches, and having the third seg-ment of the abdomen widely notched posteriorly, whilstthe last segment is pointed at its tip. Professor MilneEdwards is unable to comprehend this apparently contra-dictory description. The fact is, however, that the widenotch of the third segment of the tail is produced by thetwo angular lateral incisions towards the sides of theposterior margin of the confluent basal joints, whilst theextremity of the tail itself is obtusely pointed, with anotch on each side of the obtusely projecting upper surface of the terminal segment exhibits onlytwo very slight elevations, in the place of the roundedtubercles of the larger variety above described. Thelateral appendages of the terminal segment of the tailare comparatively small, and obliquely truncated. The smaller variety was first taken by Montagu on thesouth-west coast of England. SPH^ROMA PRIDEAUXTANUM. 415 SPHiEROMA PRIDEAUXIANUM. Specific character. OLlong-ovate ; cephalon very broad.
