Around the UK - WW2 Crash Site - Pilot, Herbert Noga
The plane flew into the mist covered hillside at cruising speed at 3:30pm 29th July, 1945, on a routine ferry flight. Herbert Noga, 24 years old, died instantly. The wreckage was recovered by the RAF, but small sections have been placed next to a cross that is inscribed with details of the event. One of a selection of 4 of my images of the crash site available on Alamy. Having lived in the area and walked the moors for more than 50 years, it is only recently that I have become aware of the crash location. Shortly after capturing this image a grass fire started by a portable barbeque engulfed the area causing widespread damage . The smoke from this can be seen in the distance on my image ID:2BWTHG5
