Marble in different strength acids. Three test tubes containing pieces of marble in different strength acids. The strongest acid is at left and the weakest at right. Marble is a form of calcium carbonate rock. It reacts with acids to produce hydrogen, which can be seen as bubbles in the solution. The stronger the acid, the more vigorous the reaction and the faster the hydrogen is produced. Therefore the left test tube fizzes whilst the right one bubbles very gently.
