Dairies—Ice Cream Cans—Cases of Bottles One of the most interesting and economical applicationsof the suspended tray elevator is in the elevating of cansof milk from receiving platforms to cold storage rooms onupper floors. Likewise cases of empty bottles are similarlyelevated to temporary storage or washing rooms. The levelposition maintained by the carrying tray makes it particular-ly adaptable in handling such high and unstable, or easilydisarranged, packages. Where space is not available insidethe dairy, these elevators are often attached to the outsidewall of the building. In such installations the frame of themachine carries the light housing necessary. If desired, theempty cans or cases may be lowered on the opposite side ofthe same elevator. Since the cantilever arm depends so much for its stabilityon its connection to the chain, this attachment should bemade unusually secure. For similar reasons of stability andstrength the chain used on such a single strand elevator. Elevator Discharging to Gravity RoUer Although wholly automatic loading of objects such ascans, with a high center of gravity, is difiScult, it may bemade thoroughly feasible. However, manual loading iscustomary for such objects, the load being placed on theloading grid by hand. Bottling—Soft DrinksCases—Trays—Cans Because of the unusually small floor space occupied bythe single strand elevator, as well as its somewhat simplerconstruction, it is sometimes preferable where light packagesonly are to be handled. Since it is open on three sides thistype elevator is also somewhat easier of access than thedouble strand type. The use of the cantilever tray makesit feasible to load or discharge packages either directly infront or at the side of the tray. Such an elevator-lowereris well adapted to the uniform packages o
