The Kan AtoN transponder is an automatic identification system (AIS) aids to navigation. Information monitored are related to the AtoNs ( Aids to Navigation - buoys and lighthouses) transmitting messages relating to: name, type, size and identification number (MMSI), real position, off position status, battery, solar panel and Racon status. All this information is transmitted in real time. It can also transmit meteorological and hydrographical data. The lighthouse was built in 1849 and designed by Alan Stevenson, uncle of Robert Louis Stevenson.
