Theybore into the stem of the plants, many ofwhich die out. The ground where thecarnations are planted has been used torthe first time for this purpose, and hadbeen planted for many years back withpotatoes and wheat. When 1 first no-ticed the pest I wenttoworkand planteda couple of thousand young lettuceplants between the rows and succeededin catching at least one thousand wormsin a week; but it is slow work,althoughit has helped me to some extent to savemy plants.
