Once we have the reputation of being high-priced, we^ shall not be able to overcome it in a lifetime. Peterson's New Begonia. My recent visit to J. A. Peterson's greenhouses, at Westwood^ gave me an opportunity to inspect the new begonia creation which has been so well named Peerless, surely without a peer. Its color is similar to the Mrs. Peterson type; that is, a rich, deep pink, and its foliage is a beautiful deep green with a green- bronze cast. This foliage impressed me as the best creation of all the Peterson efforts. This is saying a great deal, since Mr. Peterson's strain of cyclamens is among the finest in the world. The new begonia is notable for its free- blooming habit. The blooms remain firm and hold their color indefinitely. Speaking of the cyclamens again, the new house built especially to care for the stock plants is a fine sight, with thousands of perfect specimen plants, selected for size of blooms and foliage, but also because of their free-blooming habit and positive colors. The care given these stock plants and the scien- tific detail required to prepare the seeds properly for market indicate their high quality.
