Sordes and Batrachognathus pterosaurs perched on trees and catching an insect, illustration. At right and upper left is a Sordes pterosaur (wingspan: 63 centimetres). At lower left is a Batrachognathus pterosaur (wingspan: around 50 centimetres). Both these flying reptiles lived around 155 million years ago, during the Late Jurassic. Pterosaurs flew with wings formed from a membranous structure stretched between the ankles and a lengthened finger.
