Panoramic view at sunset from Delphi city to the so called "Krisaio Pedio (field) " Fokida region, Central Greece
The new city of Delphi, which after the excavations in 1892 was transferred at the west side of the archaeological site, is a modern touristic resort, ready to host all types of visitors. Here one finds the E u r o p e a n Cultural Center of Delphi which aims at reviving Delphi as a European and international cultural centre with global activities, the house of the great Greek poet Aggelos Sikelianos and his wife, E v a, which has been transformed into the Museum of Delphi Celebrations, a branch of the Arts School. All over town there are also many stores and workshops of folklore art. The Municipality of Delphi now includes: Chrisso , which was named after the ancient town of "Krisa", built, according to Homer- in the 14th or 15th BC. Traces of ruins of the walls of ancient Krisa, destroyed by the Amfiktions during the first Holy war, around 590 BC, are saved in Stefani hill, at the south of the town. The Hippodrome of Delphi where the world famous "Pithia" races used to take place, was situated there in ancient times, at the beginning of the plain that has been planted all over with olive oils, the so-called Krisaio Pedio " (Krisean Field) which stretched to the Corinthian Gulf sea
