Larva of the larder beetle (Dermestes lardarius), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This larva reaches a length of 13 millimetres. This is a beetle larva found in houses. The larval hairs seen here can cause allergies in some people. The larva will develop into a beetle that will attack products of animal origin in homes and warehouses, including bacon and other fatty meats. It is also called the bacon beetle.
