They consider it easier, as well as much less expensive, to see most or their customers at once at the coming conventions. Acreage for the coming season is re- ported by John Bodger & Sons Co., Los Angeles, to be slightly reduced on some of its specialties, but slightly increased on asters and zinnias. Roy K. Wheeler, of the Pieters- Wheeler Seed Co., Gilroy, Cal., and not L. W. Wheeler, as reported in The Review of May 26, was a visitor in Chicago the previous week. He attended a fraternal convention during his stay. A SUDDEN drop in business has surprised some houses, both wholesale and retail. Of course, a drop is always expected at this time of the year, but it came so sud- denly and business dropped to the min- imum so quickly that much comment was occasioned. After the meeting of the Southern Seedsmen's Association, at Memphis, ad- journs, Ralph B. Howe and H. A. Bertoli, of W. W. Barnard Co., Chicago, will take the train for St. Louis to attend the con- vention there of the American Seed Trade Association. The outlook for domestic crimson clover seed production this year is gloomy. Reports submitted by growers and ship- pers to the United States Bureau of Mar- kets indicate that the commercial supply of domestic seed of this crop will be even smaller than the 350,000-pound crop of last year.
