Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) in a shallow coastal lagoon. This herbivorous aquatic mammal is a subspecies of the West Indian manatee (Trichechus manatus) and inhabits shallow coastal waters and estuaries in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic Ocean and in the Gulf of Mexico. Its population is in decline due to the threat of recreational watercraft. Photographed at Flamingo, Everglades National Park, Florida, USA.
