The doors to the East entrance to the Baptistry were commissioned to Lorenzo Ghiberti in 1401 to mark Florences deliverence from the plague after he won a competition invloving seven leading artists including Donatello and Brunelleschi They are so different to other work of thetime that they are regarde as the first of the renaissance works The panels depict Adam and Eves expulsion from Eden Cain murders Able The drunkenness of Noah and his sacrifice Abraham and his sacrifice of Isaac Esau and Jacob Joseph sold into slavery Moses receiving the ten commandments The fall of Jerico The battle with the Philistines and Solomon and the Quueen of Sheba Michelangelo dubbed the doors the Gates of Paradise The original panels are in the Museo dell Opera del Duomo This image is of the copies for the tourists
