Sea urchin fossils. Rock containing fossils of Clypeus ploti sea urchins, also known as poundstones. The rock dates from the Bathonian epoch (between 167 to 164 million years ago). Fossils appear as rock slowly forms around objects buried in mud. As the rock forms, the shape and anatomy of buried animals and plants can be preserved. This specimen measures 35 centimetres in diameter and was found in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.
