He was a pioneer ofmodern lift construction and some of the most importantpassenger and other lift installations have been carriedout under his supervision and direction. He entered theemploy of Richard Waygood, bccauje a partner and thenChairman and Managing Director. His firm exhibited atthe Crystal Pakice in iSqo the first electric lift m,ide in thiscountrv, and in iS<)3 personally received with his Partnersthe Royal Warrant as Lift Makers to t;}ueen Victoria,which has continued since. He has travelled extensively, isa Fellow of the Society of Engineers, a Freeman of the Cityof London, etc., etc. He is also Chairman of the BritishGeneral Insurance Company and several important electricityand gas companies.
