Formerly, for many years, Mr. Thorpe residedin America, where much of his experience was obtained,and he still acts as consultant to the Otis Elevator New York, for whose affairs in this country and on theContinent he is Chairman of the committee in charge,(Photo: MiU-s & Kaye). HENRY C. WALKER, Chairman, WaygoodOtis, Ltd. Mr. Walker has beenassociated with the firm since 1865, covering the whole of hisengineering and commercial career. He was a pioneer ofmodern lift construction and some of the most importantpassenger and other lift installations have been carriedout under his supervision and direction. He entered theemploy of Richard Waygood, bccauje a partner and thenChairman and Managing Director. His firm exhibited atthe Crystal Pakice in iSqo the first electric lift m,ide in thiscountrv, and in iS<)3 personally received with his Partnersthe Royal Warrant as Lift Makers to t;}ueen Victoria,which has continued since. He has travelled extensively, isa Fellow of the Society of Engineers, a Freeman of the Cityof London, etc., etc. He is also Chairman of the BritishGeneral Insurance Company and several important electricityand gas companies.
