WHEN CATALOGUES ABE BARBED. The seed trade in the United States has had a good many things to think about this season, but there is no one doing a mail order business who has not paused for a moment's consideration of the plight of the trade in England as the result of the government's order there prohibiting the mailing of a cata- logue or price list except in response to a direct request. A meeting of seed merchants recently was held in London, the leading houses in England and Scotland being repre- sented and Arthur Sutton being voted to the chair. The meeting was called to consider the question of catalogues, in view of the government order restrict- ing the circulation of such, in conse- quence of the sKortage of paper. Influen- tial deputations were appointed to wait on the boards of agriculture of England, Ireland and Scotland, to endeavor to en- list their support to a proposal to be made to the controller that a license be granted to the trade to issue in the usual way, and send to all customers on the firms' books, but in a much reduced form, at least those catalogues which of- fer goods essential to food production. It was decided that no gardeners' calen- dars, or similar productions, would be is- sued by the firms there represented. CATALOGUES RECEIVED. C. E. Vamum !c Son, Atco, N.
