Somedecayed fig-trees and tangled shrubs and Sines, with here andthere a pine and cedar sapling, tell, with silent eloquence, ofneglect and ruin, and that decay has laid its blighting fingers 22 MOUNT VERNON upon every work of man tlicre. Tlic vault of the Wasliingtonfamily, vrlierein many were buried, is so neglected that someof the remains exposed to view have been carried away byplunderers.
