The parlorcars are richly decorated, and a beautiful pattern ofwhite hair cloth is used largely in the upholstering. The entire train is painted in royal blue a veryrich but quiet coloring. On the side of each car ispainted the coat ot arms of Maryland, with verypleasing effect. The framing of the coaches is of the Pullmanstandard, and it is reinforced by the Pullman anti-telescoping metal plate trussing. This excellent de- ■iiH—^ nH—15X. The beams supportingthe basement floors are each 11x18 in.; those sup-porting the first Boor, 10x18 in.; those supporting thesecond, 7x16 in., and above that 6x16 in. In thebasement the underflooring is 4 in thick, and on allthe other floors H in. thick, while the top floors are:i\l i in. thick. The wall on the south side is likethat of a pilastered mill, while that on the north sideIS more architectural. It will thus be seen that theaim has been to construct a building which, whilecontaining heavy machinery in operation, should besufficiently free from vibration to render it possibleto make experiments requiring delicate measure- Anolher engineering feature which ought to bementioned is that the building does not contain anyboilers, but that the steam for heating and also forpower is furnished from the boilers in the basementof the Rogers building, whence it is conveyedthrough asix i
