Taiwan's National Palace Museum located in Shilin, Taipei has a permanent collection of nearly 700,000 pieces of Chinese artifacts and artworks, spanning 8,000 years of Chinese history from the neolithic age to the modern period. The majority of the items were moved from the Forbidden City imperial palace as well as five other locations in mainland China during the ROC retreat.
