Queen Victoria and Prince Albert opening the First Great Exhibition, May 1851 in Chrystal Palace, London, England. It was the first in a series of World's Fairs, exhibitions of culture and industry that became popular in the 19th century. A special building, nicknamed The Crystal Palace built to house the show was designed by Joseph Paxton who drew on Paxton's experience designing greenhouses with support from structural engineer Charles Fox.
